“We won just for being on the field for Martin Luther King weekend,” said Gortarez. “The girls carried forward the fight for freedom by exercising their right to play baseball. Dr. King’s vision definitely lived on with the SoCal Dream last weekend!”
The main reason the team was put together was to travel the country and to compete at an elite level.
“When all of these girls come together from 13 different states, we become an elite team,” added Coach Gortarez. “The team we had out here this weekend is from one region, it’s a big region encompassing all of California, but the goal is to play at the Major level in travel ball and prove that girls can play baseball and play it well, just as well as the boys.”
