UC Berkeley’s Alison Gopnik Urges Parents to Let Kids Explore, Learn Their Own Way
“We don’t have to make children learn, we just have to let them learn,” wrote Alison Gopnik in a recent New York Times op-ed. Her new book, “The Gardner and the Carpenter,” makes the case that middle class parents act too much like carpenters trying to build successful adults and not enough like gardeners, allowing children the time and space to flourish of their own accord. We’ll check in with the UC Berkeley psychology professor about what the latest science says about how children learn.
