Girl sluggers blaze new trail on the national baseball diamond – Sun Sentinel

Kate Maston (Coral Springs), Janelle Calvet (Deerfield Beach), Maddie Saven (Plantation) and Jessica Prieto (Pembroke Pines) were among a group of girls from South Florida who competed in the inaugural ‘Trailblazer Series,’ a first-of-its-kind girls baseball tournament at the MLB Academy in Compton, Calif. It attracted a total of approximately 100 girls, ages 16 and under, representing 20 states across the country as well as Washington D.C. and Canada.
